Why Consider a Lifestyle Newborn Session

Why might it be a good idea to take a lifestyle approach to documenting your newborn?

One day your sweet baby will be grown, and will be unable to recall this special time in his/her life.

The little one in the following images won’t remember what her well thought out nursery looked like.  She won’t recall her big brother being so small.  If between now and then her family moves, she may not remember what the house looked like that she was first brought home to.  Now having these moments captured to look back on, she will always remember these things, including what her mom and dad looked like when she was brand new, and forever being able to feel how much they loved her.

This is my goal when documenting newborns.

My sessions take place in the family’s home, and last between 2-3 hours depending on the babies needs for feedings, diaper changes, and snuggles.  I start off with a minimalist portrait session, using a white sheet/wrap, and then move into capturing the family together.  The flow is unique to each session, but I always aim to capture the newborn in his/her crib if it is setup, with the parents, and with any siblings.  I will set the family up to interact with each other, and other moments captured happen organically as the baby’s needs are tended to.  I will rarely have everyone looking at the camera, however, it might occur if the moment is right.

If you have a toddler, or two, or more…the key is to let them play and have fun.  Let them be them.  Take the pressure off for getting the perfect family shot, and instead get them to laugh and be curious.  Those always turn out to be the best images.  Big smiles from your littles are the cutest!!  I will guide them to do certain things if possible, but will always have my camera in hand, ready to snap away, in order to capture the moments that present themselves.

Below is the most recent session that I did.  A beautiful family brought my way through Instagram.  So grateful to have been able to document this time for them!  Enjoy, and I look forward to working with all the families coming up!!
